Cristy Bird is the recipient of the Crystal Apple Award for 2021-2022 at Spring Canyon Middle School. Cristy was nominated for excellence in teaching 7th grade math by her co-workers. Ms. Beckstrand says, “[Cristy] is constantly striving to improve, not only her own teaching, but also in helping other teachers. As our team lead, she has been instrumental in helping to organize our lessons, and keep us on track.  She is amazing at being able to find resources to help us improve.” Ms. Evans says, “She is always willing to help anyone with anything they may need, school related or not.  She is open minded and willing to try new things.  Cristy makes each person feel important.”  Ms. Weight says, “She is the kindest person and goes over and beyond for her students. She does everything she can to reach them where they are. Not only would she do anything for her students, she will do anything for her coworkers. I have seen her give of her time, talents, classroom, and even her car to help out another teacher. I love Cristy Bird!” We love her, too!

This is Cristy’s 15th year of teaching. She graduated from Utah Valley University in 2007, and has taught at Westside Elementary, Art City Elementary, Springville Junior High, and now at Spring Canyon Middle School teaching 7th grade math. The Crystal Apple Award is sponsored by the Nebo Education Association and Horace Mann Insurance.
