Navajo Code Talking

Submitted by angela.youd on Mon, 05/16/2022 - 12:07

Aiyana Stoker, a 6th grade student in Mrs. McAfee’s Social Studies class, taught about Navajo Code Talkers in World War II. Aiyana is Navajo and is proud of the contributions of her people. The Navajo created a secret, unbreakable code they used as radio operators in the US Marines. They are credited with being essential to the Allied victory. Aiyana is pictured wearing traditional Navajo clothing riding across the Navajo Reservation in Arizona. She is also shown at a pow-wow in  fancier traditional clothing worn when competing in traditional Navajo dance.

Kindness Assembly

We had a wonderful assembly today sponsored by Stand for Kind! We had Division 1 Wrestler Ben Kjar, who was born with Crouzons syndrome. As a young boy the doctors told him that he would live a different life, and that's exactly what he's done! He has risen above any of life's challenges and became a Victor....not a Victim.  We also got to hear from the band Poolhouse, who shared their story of how kindness has helped them throughout life. Check out our school's Instagram stories to see a sneak peek back stage!
