Spring Canyon Middle School opened its doors Aug 2021. Previous to our opening, Nebo District patrons passed a bond election approving the building of additional schools, primarily secondary schools. The bond created 3 middle schools and the rebuild of 3 high schools, Spring Canyon being one of the middle schools. (Valley View MS in Salem and Maple Grove MS in Mapleton plus Spanish Fork High, Payson High, and Springville High were additional schools built with the bond funds.) This bond also restructured Nebo District into a middle-school model where 6th grade students were pulled from the elementary schools and 7th grade students from the junior highs resulting in a K-5 elementary school, 6-7 middle school, 8-9 jr high, and 10-12 high school.
Spring Canyon Middle School's enrollment is just shy of 1100 students and houses 6th and 7th graders. We share the same boundaries as Springville High School - in short, if a student lives in Springville (84663 zip code) and is a Nebo District student, he/she will attend SCMS. We have 6 1/2 elementary schools that feed into our boundaries - Art City, Brookside, Cherry Creek, Meadow Brook, Sage Creek, Westside plus half of Hobble Creek Elementary (the other half of Hobble Creek students attend Maple Grove MS).
SCMS's mascot is the wolves and our students pride themselves on being "Part of the P.A.C.K." and P.A.C.K. stands for Positive, Accountable, Courageous, and Kind. Middle school is a great opportunity to meet and make new friends and these students who come together in 6th gr will move together as a cohesive group through junior high and school. The 6th gr students that join together in middle school will graduate together (barring move ins/outs, of course).
Each grade is divided up into pods - pods are 3 classes scheduled consecutively (maybe per 1,2,3 or per 2,3,4 or per 5,6,7). There are seven periods each day and three of the periods students have their pod classes. In 6th gr, pod classes are math, language arts, and reading. In 7th gr, pod classes are math, language arts, and reading (1/2 year) and social studies (1/2 year). Students move as a group through their pod classes, For their other four classes, they are mixed together each period. Students also have science class, a choice of various fine arts, STEM and college/career awareness classes, social studies class, PE class, and have an elective choice. SCMS is an excellent school - the administration, faculty, staff, and students all enjoy spending each day of the school year together. Our school consistently performs on state year-end tests significantly higher than statistics would suggest and score higher than district and state averages in all subjects. We have a vibrant fine arts program with Fall and Spring concerts and a school play each Spring. This is just to name a few highlights - we strive for everyday being engaging and enjoyable and we usually hit the mark and then some. We want every student to feel like they belong and find their niche. We are all about helping students transition to a secondary setting and become more independent in their school journey.
